In the late 1980’s, just before the fall of the Soviet Union I was invited—along with other American artists— to show my work in a traveling exhibition across several soviet countries. This was part of an exchange program with some of our Soviet counterparts. I showed a series of paintings comparing Karl Marx to Jesus and Lenin to John the Baptist. I wasn’t asked back.
In the 2000’s I showed some paintings in an exhibition comparing art and science. I gave away brochures at the opening which were about animal testing and how man thinks he knows everything. I was asked to leave.
Over the years, I’ve been represented by galleries in New York, Washington D.C., and Maryland—all of which have since gone out of business. I’ve also shown work up and down the East Coast and in California—some of those venues are still standing.
I’ve calmed down. Meditation works.
My work focuses on me. Most of everything that I now do is a self-portrait or a self-reflection of some kind. By focusing on me, I can then focus on everyone and everything else. We are all the same. Everyone is me and I am everyone. As I get closer to death, I realize that everything is shit. I won’t be asked back. #mememe
I paint, draw, and write. I also create fortunes for fortune cookies.
I live in Long Beach, California with my dog.
